Major depressive disorder, recurrent, is characterized by recurrent episodes of major depression with or without psychotic features. Each episode typically lasts for at least two weeks and is characterized by symptoms such as depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, changes in appetite or weight, sleep disturbances, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, and recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.
